Boys Being Boys - LQ January 2011

Last finish for January 2011, a square for Love Quilts for the theme, Boys Being Boys.

Got a lot done this month and I have enjoyed every stitching minute, even the minutes I had to frog.

Old Time Sailing Ship square for WOCS

Just finished this ship square for World of Charity Stitching group.  This will be a quilt about ships and boats for a senior citizen in a nursing home.  It was a fairly quick finish.

I've already started on a new square for Love Quilts, "Boys Being Boys".  It is two boys playing in the snow, making a snowman-very colorful.

I like the colorful charts best, as sometimes I get bored with browns, tans grays, etc.

Eyeglass Case for a Senior

I had stitched this small piece with hummingbirds back before the holidays and didn't do anything with it - got too busy or lazy, don't know which.

Today I made it into an eyeglass case for a senior lady for the charity group, World of Charity Stitching.

Our group has decided to try to make things into useful items for the seniors.

Another Finish for Love Quilts January 2011 - BiPlane for Hamilton

Off to a good start for the new year, as I've already finished two Love Quilts squares and they aren't due until April - yeah!  I had told myself not to commit to too many squares for either of my two charities, and so far, I am doing okay.  I'm working on another one for World of Charity Stitching, an old-fashioned sailing ship with some flags bordering it and am about half-way done.

After that, I'll tackle a dog portrait for a quilt for a senior for WOCS.   This will be made of realistic dogs and will be quilted by Bonnie, one of our wonderful, dedicated quilters.

This one is for the charity I stitch for:  World of Charity Stitching and will be given as a gift to a senior lady at Century Center.  This beautiful piece stitched by Gale in NC is one of the older squares left over from the previous WOCS administration and was too large to make into a tote bag, so I thought it would be perfect for a walker bag.  It turned out nicely and didn't take quite as long to sew as the first one I did a while back.

Another Small Finish for WOCS

Just finished my second small piece for WOCS for this year.  I will sew this on the front of either a walker bag/caddie or wheelchair caddie for a senior man at the nursing home we support.

It was a simple chart and stitched up fairly fast.

First Finish for 2011

This is a brand new year of stitching and I have finished one of my commitments for Love Quilts for a little boy named Alexander, who loves anything having to do with outer space.  I found this chart in my Calendar-a-Day packet and thought it was perfect for this theme.

Now, I'm on to the next square for charity.  I'm working on a small piece for WOCS, a Great Blue Heron, which I'll make into either a walker tote or I might try this one on a wheelchair tote for one of the senior men.

This year we are trying to stitch squares that can be made into useful items for the seniors and children.

World of Charity Stitching

As a Christmas gift, I received a package of DMC threads from my sister-in-law and in the package was a small pamphlet of charts.  My group, WOCS, is signing up for a new man's lap quilt theme of sailing ships and in the pamphlet was a beautiful old-time ship with a border of small flags surrounding it.  This will be one of many squares I plan to stitch for this wonderful group this year.

I finished my little doggie square for WOCS, which will be made into a quilt for a child.

Finished a Walker Bag for World of Charity Stitching

I sewed up my first walker bag for a senior at the nursing home our charity supports and it turned out okay.  It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I hope my second one will be easier and faster.   This was a stitched piece donated by a friend who had stitched several little bears a long time ago and never got back to stitching again, as happens sometimes.  She gave me 5 or 6 pieces and I plan to make them into totes or walker bags.

I have already cut out the material for a new walker bag and will work on it as I have time.
