DaffyCat's Totally Useless SAL

This year I joined in the fun at DaffyCat's Totally Useless SAL.   I have saved my ORTs for the last two years and didn't really know what to do with them.  Since I make small therapy pillows for my group, World of Charity Stitching, I stuffed one with two years worth of ORTS, with just a little bit of pillow fluff to help fill it out.

This is my stitching for January. Not too bad for less than one month.

Here is how I used my ORTs

Resolved to Sew 2012

Very Berry Handmade is hosting a giveaway titled Resolved to Sew 2012.

I haven't really done a lot of sewing these past years, except for my group, World of Charity Stitching.  I used to sew all the time when I was younger, even made a couple of dresses, pants, shirts, pillows, curtains, etc.

This past year my sweet husband replaced my old worn-out Singer with a brand new Jenome sewing machine and I really love it.  I have made several tote bags, walker bags, wheelchair bags, therapy pillows, and other items for the seniors and children of the charities our group helps.

I have downloaded several new patterns I want to try this year and I hope to be able to make some nice items for our group to donate to charity.

Cross stitching is my favorite hobby, but sewing for my group is fun too.

I did a little bit of sewing yesterday and finished this cute little therapy pillow for one of our charities at World of Charity Stitching.  The chart was a freebie I've had for a while.

I enjoy making totes, pillows, bookmarks, and other items for the seniors at the nursing home.   They really appreciate the items we donate to them from our group.

Valentine's Day Cards for Seniors

My group, World of Charity Stitching, is making valentine cards for the seniors at Century Care Center.  There are 83 seniors living at the center at the present time.  Anyone can join in the stitching.  We are making small hearts to be made into cards.  The stitching has to be finished by January 25th so the card-makers can finish the cards and they can be delivered by February 14th, Valentine's Day.  Sometimes the seniors are forgotten during these holidays that most of us take for granted.

You can go to our FaceBook page and post if you wish to make any hearts for the cards.

Under the Sea Square for Thomas

I started this underwater scene before the holidays and finished it the first part of January.  It is for the wonderful group, Love Quilts,  for a boy named Thomas.  I found this nice chart on the Cross Stitcher's Club site, however, I didn't stitch the entire chart, as it was too big for this project.  So, I pasted and copied bits and pieces onto a grid and made a working copy to stitch from.

If you'd care to read a little bit about Thomas, that would be great.  And Love Quilts is always open to new members.  They do a wonderful job of organizing, stitching, and making the quilts for the children.

Two New Totes for WOCS

I finished these two totes for World of Charity Stitching on January 1, my first projects of the new year.  The beautiful butterfly and flowers square was stitched and donated by one of our UK members, Lis.  The girl and goose square was donated to our group last year by Pauline.  This is a very simple tote bag.   I used one of my Christmas presents to cut out the fabric:  a rotary cutter.  This made the cutting so much easier and I don't know why I've never had one before now.
