Traffic Signs Square for World of Charity Stitching

The ladies of World of Charity Stitching group are making squares for a modern transportation quilt to be given to a senior man in a nursing home.  The quilt will be assembled by one of our talented quilters, Bonnie.

My contribution to this quilt is the traffic signs square I finished a couple of days ago.  Still need to wash and press it and get it to Bonnie.  She enjoys working on several quilts at a time and I know she stays busy.

The pattern is a new freebie from http://www.freepatternsonline.com, where there are some nice free patterns to chose from, if you like the free ones, and I do.  However, I did a little bit of modification to one of the signs:  made a "dead end" sign instead of another "one way" sign.

I am a thrifty person and enjoy saving money when I can.   My husband is just the opposite - loves to spend - so it can get complicated sometimes.

Round Robin at World of Charity Stitching

My group, World of Charity Stitching, is currently doing a Round Robin of sports squares, to be made into a man's quilt for a senior citizen.   I signed up for the Bowling square, as I am in a co-ed league with my husband on Friday nights.  This is also where I do some of my stitching, even though the lighting is dim and I have to jump up all the time to bowl.  I usually try to complete a lot of half-stitches before I go and then only have to finish the crosses at the bowling alley.  I finished the little Dachshund last Friday and started on another square, a montage of traffic signs for a modern transportation quilt to be quilted by one of our quilters, Bonnie.

Dachshund for WOCS

This past Friday, while at the bowling alley (bowling in a league with my husband) and stitching in between, I finished a cute little Dachshund for World of Charity Stitching that will be part of a dog themed quilt for a senior man at the nursing home.  I didn't enjoy stitching all those shades of browns, but it turned out okay, with not much frogging.

I have a friend who loves Dachshunds who would probably enjoy this little guy, but I don't usually stitch the same piece twice, so I guess I'll have to find something else to stitch for her later on.

SAL at Oak Haven Designs

Jan 11 owlI'm trying something new (to me) this year, a Stitch-A-Long from Oak Haven Designs.  It is a month-by-month design of little owls, with the months at the bottom.  Here's a small picture of the January design (not my stitching though, as I've only just started.)

If you'd like to join in this SAL, all you have to do is join the Yahoo Group called  Oak Haven Designs at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OakHavenDesigns/ and ask Tonia for the charts.   Since I was late getting started, I asked her for January and February charts, which she sent me via email.   These are free charts for members and she also has a lot of other freebies that you can request she send to you.  Tonia has some beautiful charts she gives to members and also some she has for sale.

It took me a while to figure out the measurements of the finalized design, which will be about 7.5 x 14 when finished, but after much adding, subtracting, and using the ruler, I hope I have it right.

I started tonight on the January chart and will try to get both January and February done this month.
